Here we go again: Donovan to Magic, Crean to Florida?

Billy Donovan, the main coach on the Kentucky-go-round last month is now going to coach the Orlando Magic for a cool $6m/year.

That leaves a big opening for a head coach, and you guessed it, Crean's name has already been mentioned:

From the Seattle PI:

The buzz later in the afternoon of course was the Billy Donovan-Orlando Magic deal and it was funny because Marquette coach Tom Crean walked right next to me before the night session of the predraft games and looked relaxed and cool. But he is probably going to be the Gators' No. 1 choice to replace Donovan.

Just when you thought it was a good week to give up smoking ...

  1. A good week to give up sniffing glue too.

I love them both, but TC has the same chance of taking the Florida job that DJ has at a lottery pick.

Correct me if there is some logical reason to beleive this one.

  4. Well, I don't want Crean to leave, but if he does, any coach being interviewed for the Marquette job will see that its a great job at Marquette.

  5. Hey its not an official rumor until Andy Katz makes the report. Forde says it will be Grant at VCU or the current head assitant at Florida.

  6. Fear not, hopefully this post will get to you before you kick up those bad habits. Here is the lastest updated news article from ESPN.com about Billy's departure and here is what they had to say about TC I quote "Earlier at the NBA pre-draft camp in Orlando, Memphis coach John Calipari and Marquette coach Tom Crean both said they are NOT candidates for the position. If Florida were to go outside of the family, meaning not VCU's Anthony Grant, then Villanova's Jay Wright is expected to be on the radar. But there is definitely a groundswell of support to hire Grant, who Bill Sr. said he hoped the Gators would hire after he was a 10-year assistant to his son with the Gators and instrumental in recruiting the players for both national championships." Sorry for the long post, but I would like to be the first one to say Crean isn't going anywhere, atleast not to Florida. I will pay what i owe in student loans to whoever bets he will and is correct.
