Marquette Roars Back Late

Down by 8-10 points until the remaining ten minutes of the game, Marquette went on a 24-0 point run to defeat insurgent Bucknell 72-61. Marquette looked terrible for the first 75% of the game until going on their run. Bucknell had started out strong, but it appeared that fatigue set in during the late game stretch. Bucknell managed only twenty points in the second half. This is the second straight game that Bucknell played a BE team tough on their home floor (they lost to Nova 68-52 on Friday).

Freshman Davante Gardner was a load during the crucial run, and Marquette went to him on several straight possessions to take the lead. Vander Blue also had five straight points to help close the gap. For the game, Jae Crowder also had a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds. Dwight Buycks had a strong game with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 turnovers.

And, I only kind of think those things above happened. In other news, today's game was a comedy of errors for anyone outside the 414 area code. First, the game was not available on any other outlets (such as SNY and MASN, which both elected to show a Big EAST soccer game). Nevermind that this had originally been advertised as a TV game.

Since this the 21st century and internet radio feeds are available, many fans followed along with game tracker and ESPN Milwaukee's internet feed. Except repeatedly, ESPN Milwaukee's Internet radio feed kept switching away from the Marquette game to their national NFL feed. At multiple times this occurred, including during the final stretch run. For the last two minutes the feed just went dead. (Oh, and as I was writing this recap, it cut out again during Buzz's radio interview). What. The. Hell.

To the Athletic Department, if you want Marquette to be considered an elite program, how about working to ensure our games are properly broadcast on the TV or over the Internet?

The Marquette vs Washington game will be seen by only 6% of the country on Thursday in a "constant state" where it's the only thing being shown. And additional 25% will be able to "flex" to the game depending on what CBS does.

Of course, you can always watch online with MMOD or purchase DIRECTV's Mega March Madness and watch all the games in HD.

• There was also a new release from the podcast series with an interview of Brad Autry. Of all the podcasts, Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development Brad Autry has been the most enjoyable to listen to so far. Again, here is the landing page for all podcasts.
• Autry also touches on the most recent event for the Marquette players. Evidently they just completed Boot Camp. I'm not sure what Boot Camp really refers to, except that Autry mentions it involved lots of running. Has the NCAA relaxed the pre-season requirements for workouts, or are coaching staffs just getting smarter about how they work the teams? We've heard about 30 minute workout chunks and now Boot Camp, but I thought practice didn't officially start until tomorrow? By the way, the previous link has extra information about the Marquette Madness event on 10/25.
• The team is down in Chicago today for the Chicago Tip-Off Dinner. The event will be at the Shedd Aquarium at 6:30 tonight.
  
• While in Chicago, Marquette will practice on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Despite reports to the contrary, those practices will be held at the University of Chicago and will not be open to the public.
  
• As a continuing demonstration of why it's a great time to root for Marquette, MU will be on TV a lot this year. The full PDF can be obtained here. Twelve games will be on national TV, and almost all of the other games will either be on Channel 32 or the Big East Network. No, the BE Network is nothing like the Big Ten Network. No word yet on what the TV schedule means for ESPN Full Court, although Chicos is confident all games will be on DirecTV.

”Tom Crean Show” Begins Nov. 8 On Time Warner Sports
Weekly Program To Air At 5 p.m. Thursday Nights

Milwaukee – “The Tom Crean Show” finds a new television home this season as the 30-minute program moves to Time Warner Sports Channel 32 in 2007-08, with the first broadcast scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 8) night.

Dennis Krause will host the show, which will feature interviews, highlights, player features and behind-the-scenes access to the nationally ranked team.

The show will air during its regularly scheduled time slot of 5 p.m. CT on Thursday nights and re-air several times over the course of the week. The debut edition will be replayed Nov. 8 at 10:30 p.m., Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., and Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.

The Golden Eagles welcome IUPUI to the Bradley Center Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. for the Pepsi Season Opener. The Pepsi Tip-Off Luncheon is set for Nov. 9 in the Monaghan Ballroom of the Alumni Memorial Union. The reception begins at 11:15 a.m., with lunch and a program slated to start at Noon. The “Tom Crean Show” radio program also debuts this week with its first installment Monday night from 6-7 p.m. CT at Mo’s Irish Pub on Wisconsin Avenue.
