Congratulations to Dave Gavitt, Hall of Famer

In case you missed it, Dave Gavitt was selected to the the 2006 class of the Basketball Hall of Fame yesterday. Gavitt was a highly successful coach at Providence College before leaving coaching at the age of 43. Soon after, Gavitt founded the nation's premier college basketball conference, the BIG EAST.

Gavitt was a great coach. As a kid growing up in SE Mass in the late 60's and early 70's, his teams with Ernie DiGregorio, Marvin Barnes & Kevin Stacom were just so much fun to watch...it's what turned me on to college hoops, a lifelong love.
