Meet the Buzz Family...

Pip on Fox6 does a 4 minute piece on Buzz and his family.

Sorry about the "STORM CENTER" border. The weather in Milwaukee has been crazy these past 48 hours. 6-8 inches of rain will do that.

Very nice piece. No doubt he's likable and apears to have a wonderful family. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that MU sold this to Ch. 6 the same week season tickets bills were mailed out. It's clear there's a spin machine running on all 8 cylinders.

Dichard,

You should have just stopped after sentence number one.

On the video, I laughed out loud when he said he had to recruit his wife. This man is going to get us some great recruits, just wait and see, angry Richard #1.

And by sentence number one, I meant sentence number two. That one was also very positive and well intentioned.

Richard #2 -
In all your wisdom, maybe you can explain to me why Channel 6 felt the need to profile the Marquette basketball coach in an empty practice gymnasium in early June.

After all, it's not as if the Bucks don't have a new coach...and the NBA Finals are going on...while the Brewers are heating up...while the Packers prepare for minicamp. It makes as much sense as running a story on Ned Yost in February.

Could it possibly be that Marquette pitched this story? Do you think? And why would they want to pitch it now? What is happening at the moment that makes MU think they need some publicity? Oh yeah....season ticket invoices are being sent out!

Call me "angry" all you want. I'm just pointing out reality. It's about as plain as the nose on your face.

Incidentally, if MU had put even a modest amount of effort into the coaching search and made a financial commitment that they demand (IN JULY!!) from it's ticket holders, they wouldn't have to resort to such pathetic PR stunts. Had they ponied up and hired Tony Bennett, they wouldn't have season ticket holders having second thoughts about renewing -- and I guarantee you that they are, because I've spoken to many.

Hey whinny, what's wrong with a little publicity. Lighten up. You do like Marquette don't you?

Let's also remember that this is Fox 6, and they have an hour of news to fill every day. They do puff pieces all the time.

John - In what way does pointing out that MU has made a very obvious (and ham-handed) attempt to paint a flattering portrait of an unqualifed hire indicate I don't like Marquette? Pippins probably spent more time lining up and preparing for this interview than Cottingham did looking for our head coach.

If you think liking Marquette means never questioning boneheaded decisions, then you're exactly the kind of fan the university hopes will continue to fill the seats when the Milwaukee Jesuit Junior College takes the floor in year two of this "regime."

Dichard,

There's nothing wrong with questioning decisions, in fact, I hope most people would not just accept everything that they hear or believe everything they read. I encourage dissent and constructive criticism, actually. I am a Marquette grad, after all. With that said, you're not just questioning the decision.

You're acting like a little child with your incessant complaints. You don't like the decision. We get it. Honestly, we do. But as I stated before, NOTHING is going to change it for at least the next year, and hopefully Buzz will prove you wrong and in 10 years we'll be thankful we snatched him up before some other school could. (Sorry if your eyes are burning after reading all that optimism) So rather than continually searching for and pointing out the negative aspects of the decision, why not take the "I hope he proves me wrong" approach that so many other people that questioned the decision making process have done?

I certainly am far from perfect and I let my emotions cloud my judgment at times, so I give others the benefit of the doubt when they do the same. That is, until they continually think based on their emotions and take away from any rational discussion.

This is where I see you. You can't just say to yourself "That was a nice piece on our coach" or pull yourself away from your anger and say "you know what, Richard #1, even though I'm still pissed off and am so tempted to write some pissy little comment about how Marquette has to spend a ton of time and energy promoting their new coach because nobody knows him yet, even though that will make me feel better for about 3 seconds, maybe I should consider that Buzz has been working his ass off the past two months recruiting so there's a slight possibility that he never had time to do a piece like that in the past, and either way, who cares, it was a damn nice piece and while I have no basis to judge Buzz's coaching abilities because I've never seen the man coach, I can at least feel some comfort in knowing that he is a straight shooter and a seemingly genuine guy." No, you can't do that, because you're so focused on venting about the hire that you can't pull back and allow yourself to even begin to come to terms with Buzz being our new coach.

Sorry, for you, but Buzz IS our coach -- he is the face of our basketball program and to a large extent, our school, so if you are a fan of the program and a fan of Marquette University, no matter how pissed off you are or how flawed you think the decision process was, you should always, ALWAYS want the best for the school. And at this point, you can't change our coach, so you might as well try and support the guy once and a while. If that's so unfathomable, then at least save us from your repetitive negative drivel, at least until the season starts or until Buzz says the wrong thing or does something worth criticizing. Until you do see the light, it'll be tough for me to not post after your posts because it pisses me off when someone that's supposedly a fan projects such a negative attitude towards the program, the school, or the coach for no legitimate reason. And at this point, if you haven't figured it out already, I feel like you don't have a legitimate reason to CONTINUOUSLY whine and complain now that it's been two months since Buzz was hired. You can reject that, but assuming that you're not 8 years old, that's the basis of my feelings.

And if you're a Marquette grad, it pisses me off that you can't use your education to look at things objectively. Also, on a more personal note, as a fellow Richard, I would rather not have people confuse myself with you. That is, unless you begin to post things that are worth while. Then I won't feel the need to distinguish myself as Richard #2. Until then, let it go. Please.

Sincerely,

Richard #2

Richard #2 Thank-You DICK #1 you must be one very unhappy person let it go you can only beat up Marquette for so long I am tired of your negative attitude if you are a loyal fan which I can't believe you are let the chips fall and give the man a chance after all someone has given you a chance in life, you were not always a super star were you ? We have had season tickets since 1966 and my father is a MU. Dental grad. so in that amount we have seen the good and the bad do you have a HEART ? I bet you don'y even have season tickets ,do you contribute to the University. All you do is flap your gums here maybe you should become an Indiana Fan TC needs all the help he can get. Do you think things were always rosie with TC as coach well I can tell you NO and I have the inside track what I could tell you would suprise you but maybe you know it all. Its time to stop beating a dead horse and support a University you claim to like ?

This is a whole lot of anger toward a couple posts pointing out the timing of this piece. Unfortunately, none of the responses address the fact that I simply pointed out that this piece was pitched to Channel 6 precisely because season ticket invoices were mailed out. Nobody seems to dispute this!

As for CET3717, I DO have season tickets (for now) and I HATED Crean. I like Williams...he's just not qualifed to be our head coach. That's all.
I particularly like Richard #2 questioning the use of my education when he continues to refer to me a "Dichard." What a wit on that guy!!

Unknown said...

Correction to my earlier posts: this piece on Channel 6 was NOT pitched as a result of season ticket invoices being mailed.

It was pitched in a panicked response to the piece the Journal Sentinel was working on (published today) addressing the fact that Dick Strong decides who is coaching the Warriors.

If ANYBODY disputes this, you're out of your minds.

So if thats the case, why the bitching? He's the one putting up the money for us to be a top 25 program. Who would be most interested in us having the best coach possible? Your arguements are getting lame and boarding on paranoia.

Richard #1 If you like Buzz just give it a chance what makes you the expert when it comes to coaching ? Have you ever coached anything? You just want to be to critical, are you that way in everyday life. Do your self a favor how about a positive spin. For you to say you like Buzz thats a start.

Richard #1,

You're right, I didn't address the point that you made regarding the timing of the piece. I guess that's because it's hard for me to take your arguments seriously when they are buried in negativity and cynicism. Either way, welcome to 2008. Marketing is everything and I would fully expect Marquette to market the team and the coach accordingly, especially when season vouchers go out and when there isn't much else going on in the news. Sounds pretty logical to me, but you somehow see it as further proof that Marquette made a bad decision and is now overcompensating.

You can feel however you want, but all I ask is that take 5 minutes to countdown from 300 before you post. That way when you make whatever argument you want, it will perceived as an argument and not just as a bitter post from some guy that doesn't really even seem to be a fan.

And about the Dichard, you're right, that is pretty juvenile and I apologize. Someone used to call me that all the time, not because they thought I was a dick, but because they thought it was funny. I thought the same, but I'll refrain from using it anymore. In the end, I'm just a fan of good conversation and debate. You have the ability to add to the discussion, so please do.

Thanks,

Richard #2

Richard #2 dont get soft on us TRUE Marquette people hahaha, I appreciate your opinions and loyality to a very good University and Team. We all want the best for this team these kids need more loyal people behind them. As far as the press goes what if Wisc. was gettign a new coach they would flood the press with interviews lets not forget MU is second fiddle as far as they are concerned. This was refreshing to get some ink.
