The $1.5M Man

$1,547,044

This just in......Tom Crean makes alot of money.

$1,547,044

More details here in an article from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

What do you want for $1,547,044? I'll take what we've been getting -- these are very good times for Marquette hoops. But hey, I'm greedy -- and want a few more more things:

  • One (maybe two) 6-9, 245 pound PF/C's please. Ideally with good back to the basket skills. One, just one of these kids -- every other year;
  • One quintessential small forward that can annihilate the opposition, just as opposing SFs routinely do to MU (thank goodness Tucker, Chandler and Nichols are gone);
  • No more Juco players;
  • A February (or March) free of injury from a key starter;
  • Another year with Dominic James in the program;
  • A return trip to the Sweet 16 in 2007-2008.
What do you want for $1,547,044?

How about an NCAA win w/o D-Wade? He has as many as I do. All you boot lickers on the blog need to look at SIU and ask how they win so many NCAA games w/o the $1.5 million salary or 18,000 fans. They have a game-coach!

Bold Mr. Anomymous,

I think we had your point about an NCAA victory covered above.

"A return trip to the Sweet 16 in 2007-2008"

Good day

What is the difference between using "anonymous" as a moniker and using "NY Warrior?"

The original post was right on and has nothing to do with being greedy. It is time that all fans hold Crean to a standard, as a floor coach, befitting of a man that makes this much money . All the things he does off the floor are nice, including befriending every professional coach and athlete in the state, but a guy that makes $1.5+, ANYWHERE in college hoops, needs to have a team show up in conf. tourneys and the NCAAs better prepared to play. I am not suggesting that he needs to go by any means, but the guy is given way too much slack by too many.

Right on target NY Warrior! Good post!

Right on target NY Warrior! Great post! Maybe even showing a little recruiting prowess in Michigan.

I've said it once, I'll say it a hundred more times. If MU said they were going to spend $1.5m on marketing and advertising, no one would raise an eyebrow. Spending that $1.5m on Crean nets MU a tenfold return, much better than any ad campaign could ever muster.

If there isn't evidence of continued progress in the BB program (granted an occasional off year) Crean will be dead weight to MU. Organizing the Al marathon will not cut it nor will just "being in" on players. "Hard work" needs to produce results or its just verbage.

For all you Kentucky fan wannabees, how isn't Crean producing other than NCAA tournament wins? Especially compared to the last four Marquette coaches.

Hey Wampum -- I hope you're kidding about Crean organizing Al's Run. That's been around for 20 years!! There were 30,000 people running that thing in the late 80's. Crean's got next to nothing to do with that.

If Tom is in the top echelon of college coaches, why is that we never get the top 25 recruit that other top coaches get??? Look at all the top 100 projected prep athletes in a given class - Do we ever see that Marquette has one locked up? Tom has had a Final Four run with possibly the best known NBA player at this time and yet disappointing results in my book- as far as recruiting what could be called a "stud" player .

An offense that isn't composed of on-the-ball screens.
