Marquette Broke Contract w/UWM

After consulting with their legal team (improbably MU Law grads) UW@Milwaukee will be filing a case later today in Federal District Court 7 about an alleged contract violation that occurred during the last 6 minutes of Friday's Marquette vs. UWM tilt.

There is extensive case law to support UWM's position, hammered out by the many suits brought in multiple Washington Generals v. Harlem Globetrotters cases.

See for yourself:

That's pretty funny and Crean's comments are interesting. But it's just a fact. Firing up three pointers at will with a nearly 40 point lead shows absolutely no class.

Don't forget, Marquette is "committed to the dignity of all human beings and to the principle that all people should be afforded basic respect."

Isn't that right, Father Wild?

Haha, i didn't see UWM letting up under Pearl either. Don't talk to us about class.

Wait, is this serious?

Perhaps we should sue them. I'm not an attorney, nor do I play one on TV. They alleged to be a basketball team. I'm not sure they actually fulfilled their obligation on that part. Hence, the lay-up drill in the last 5-7 minutes.

Is there no similar mercy rule for UWM? That's funny.

UWM complaining that MU ran the score up. Are they really complaining that in collegiate sports they have a right to not have their feelings hurt?

It's going to be a long adulthood for these UWM kids...

Mercy my ass. Hey UWM, you play with the big boys, you play big boy rules. Nobody held a gun to your head and said, "play MU... or else." Oh wait, maybe in your neighborhood they did!

At least in our neighborhood, you hold a gun anywhere near our heads and there's a good chance we'll be firing back.

Moral of the story UWM -- be careful what you wish for!

I think Marquette should be able to get part of their $58,000 back. I assume that we made that agreement with the thought that the stands would be packed all night for an exciting game. Not that most people would leave with 15 minutes left on the game clock and go get trashed on Water Street. There's no greater feeling than listening to the complaining of UWM students over the past several years, and then the bitter silence after the game was played...

I think it's interesting that at the end of the year our game with IUPUI will have a greater positive impact on our power ranking than the waste of time we just spent with UWM. I would rather play UW-Green Bay and help out coach Todd K. than listen to all this BS from the other side of town.

I don't want to rain on the fun parade, but I looked at it and it looks fake (whether it is or not, I don't know). I printed it off to look at it and the text does not match (fuzziness and boldness) and is not slanted like the rest of the contract (because of the angle of the picture).

Mike dude is a genius!! I think CBS News may have put this together.

mke_dude, you are ADDING to the fun parade!

Oh, I gotta go...Marquette just hit another three against UW-M off a steal.

MKE_Dude .. outstanding. You've made my day. You're like the fireworks at the end of the fun parade.

I'm not sure it shows a lack of class. If you read Crean's comments correctly, you would see that the team had goals greater than winning the basketball game, and if it took the whole game to achieve those goals, then so be it.

As for the "Marquette is committed..." et al. comment, I am pretty sure they had basic respect, and were treated with dignity... I mean, it isn't like MU pulled a T.O. on Dallas' star or anything. It is a basketball game they begged for for years, and finally they got what they wanted and deserved after all the crying.

A good old-fashioned ass whooping.

The only thing that worries me about TC's comments is that we are playing Jeter's mentor's team this weekend. But outside of that, he is dead on.

That looks like BS to me. The font on the Rules section looks significantly different from the rest of the page. Even the orientation of the letters are slightly more vertical than the other text.

Until I see this reported somewhere else as well, I'm calling this a mediocre Photoshop hoax.

Wow. Just wow.

You really should call Bud Haidet at UWM, ask him if it's a hoax. He's going to deny it, of course, as writing a Mercy Rule into a contract is would be highly embarrassing. But you'll have your answer.

Phone him up and ask him & report back!
