Big East opener closes in

Jerel McNeal and Wesley Matthews both missed practice yesterday. McNeal and Matthews fell victim to an unintentional bit of headbanging earlier in the week during practice. Their status for Thursday's game is unknown.

Nevertheless, the Golden Eagles open up Big East play tomorrow night at Providence College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30pm CST. As of this morning, it is uncertain whether or not the Friars' star sophomore PG Sharaud Curry will play. Kevin McNamara updates the situation here.

Without Curry in the lineup, the Friars annihilated Longwood University last night by a score of 107-59. The Friars are now 10-3 on the season. Here is the box score.

Off topic -- but interesting -- Jonathan Feigen from the Houston Chronicle blogs on Steve Novak and his situation in Houston. Good stuff, IMHO.
