Marquette vs. Chaminade Silverswords

On Monday, #10 Marquette will take on the Chaminade Silver Swords. Tip time is 1:30pm, MST (Marquette Standard Time) in the Maui Invitational at the Lahaina Civic Center (capacity 2,400).

The game is broadcast on ESPN2, but if you're stuck at work, it's possible the game will be online here. (IE Only).

Marquette has done well in these pre-season tourneys, winning the Great Alaska Shootout two seasons ago, and CBE Classic last year.

Chaminade is a Catholic (Marianist) D2 school in the Pacific West Conference. They return six seniors. If you want to get jealous and see how the students at Chaminade live, try this video.

Chaminade's last Maui win was over another school in the Big East, a 52-49 first-round victory over Villanova in 2003. Hopefully, Chaminade's, um, dominance, over the Big East will end with Marquette.

Marquette is guaranteed 3 games in Maui. If they dispatch the Silverswords Monday, they play at 6pm on Tuesday versus the winner of the LSU/Oklahoma State game (4pm on ESPN). For those who'd like to see a LSU/Marquette game because of former MU player, Dameon Mason, don't bother. DMas has a "viral infection in the muscles surrounding his heart" and won't play.

Would a win against Chaminade count as a win in our official record?

Who is covering that Kolarik guy?

Just watched the first half and I am completely embarrassed to be an MU grad. They don't even guard James, Matthews, and McNeal from the outiside. These guys cannot make a shot other than a layup. What have been doing all summer? Impressed with some of the D, but Fitz and Barro have been anemic to say the least. There transition game should be there strength, but on numerous occassions they have unforced turnovers and rarely does the point guard run a break in the center of the floor. Horrible poise on the offensive end, and unless these guys gain confidence shooting the ball, particularly James and McNeal I'm afraid that this season will be a major disappointment (possibly an NIT birth). Let's not forget how they finished last season. The good news/or bad depending on how you look at it as that D.James will be back next season. He's about as NBA ready as my sister.

Give us a break. They won again

Dude, we're also embarrassed you're an MU grad.

I gotta agree with mr. negative post. They can't shoot the ball. 2-18 from three pt. line and we're talking wide open shots. Also, there zone offense was horrible. I know most people on this site are homers but you gotta call a spade a spade. Maybe they'll play up to the competion as the year goes on. Struggling to beat a D2 school isn't good.

I'm embarrassed that you're a MU grad. Sounds like TV Director. What a moron.

A TV Director?

Why is it verboten to point out that our team is a bunch of truly crappy shooters and have been since Novak left?

Yeah, verbotten alright. Or maybe it's verbotten to say that some people can't handle success and think the sky is falling every 10 seconds.
